Roof Cleaning & Moss Removal – Restoring and Protecting Your Roof
Your roof protects your entire property — and I treat it with the care it deserves.
Professional Roof Cleaning: Steam or Manual
Traditional pressure washing can be aggressive, often stripping the surface of your tiles or causing water ingress. At Muck Off, I specialise in damage-free cleaning. By working safely from ground level, scaffold towers, or ladders, I ensure no one ever sets foot on your roof, protecting your tiles from cracks and structural stress.
Depending on your roof type and desired result, I offer two professional approaches:
Option A: Professional Steam Cleaning
The "Instant Results" Method. Using specialised, low-pressure steam equipment, I gently lift moss, algae, and lichen. The high temperature sanitizes the tile instantly, restoring the original colour of your roof without the need for high-force water.
Option B: Manual Scraping & Biocide
The "Gentle Evolution" Method. I use custom-profiled scrapers to remove moss by hand. This is followed by a professional eco-biocide treatment. Over the following months, the biocide works with the elements to naturally break down remaining organic growth, cleaning the tile over time.
The Muck Off Process
1️⃣ Inspection & Consultation – I carry out an inspection and we discuss which method (Steam or Manual) best suits your roof.
2️⃣ The Clean – Whether using steam or manual scraping, the work is done safely from towers or ground level. I do not go on your roof.
3️⃣ Eco-Biocide Treatment – Applied to every roof to kill remaining spores and prevent moss from returning. It is biodegradable and pet/child safe once dry.
4️⃣ Full Perimeter Clean – Every job includes a full gutter clearance plus a wash-down of all gutters, soffits, and fascias.
5️⃣ Site Tidy – I pre-wet your plants before starting and rinse everything down afterward, leaving your property spotless.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will the steam damage my roof tiles?
No. Unlike a pressure washer which uses blunt force, my system uses high-temperature steam at very low pressure. It’s the heat that does the work, gently lifting moss and lichen without eroding the surface of the tile or stripping away its protective layers.
Why don’t you walk on the roof?
Many roof tiles, especially older ones, are not designed to support the concentrated weight of a person. Walking on them can cause hairline cracks that lead to leaks later on. By working from scaffold towers or ground level, I ensure your roof remains structurally sound.
Is the Biocide treatment safe for my garden?
Absolutely. I use a professional-grade, biodegradable biocide. As an extra precaution, I thoroughly pre-wet any nearby plants and grass before I start and rinse them down afterward. Once dry (usually within 2–4 hours), the treatment is completely safe for children and pets.
How long does the "Manual Scrape" method take to show full results?
While the moss is removed instantly, the biocide treatment works with the weather to clean the remaining organic staining. You will see a significant difference within a few weeks, with the tiles continuing to brighten over the next 3 to 9 months as the rain washes away the dead spores.
What happens to all the moss that comes off?
I take full responsibility for the mess. I clear all debris from your site, and because I disconnect downpipes and include a full gutter, soffit, and fascia clean with every job, you won’t be left with any unsightly "wash-off" or blocked downpipes.
